A little surgery
Yesterday the kids and I went to Iowa City and this was one of our main reasons. Hospice sponsored our family for Christmas last year. As part of that the kids received a gift card that enabled each of them to pick out an animal. Danny was able to then record a saying for them to be placed in the animal. Unfortunately, when we were able to work on it, Danny was having a very hard time completing a simple sentence. 2 of them he rattled off with no problem at all. The other 2 were a big struggle. Avery's horse was one that had Daddy's voice a little messy. Lately, the boys have been pushing their animals rather frequently just to hear Daddy again. Avery has been especially emotional the last couple of weeks missing Danny. Watching him push his horse at night and cry because he can't hear Daddy very well just breaks your heart.
So yesterday, we went to Build A Bear and had a minor surgery performed. They took the voice box out of Aidan's bear and re-recorded a new one for Avery to put in his horse. Avery's horse now sounds identical to Aidan's bear. The sweet surgeon learned about our story through the process obviously because she had to listen to the boxes. Out of the kindness of her heart she wouldn't let me pay her when I went to the register. So sweet. And so touching. God's still got us. Still looking out for us. I did learn even when they wear their voice boxes out that Build A Bear is able to restore them. So we'll be hearing Daddy for a long time to come.
(I kept the original one as well. It's a good reminder for all of us about the struggles that Danny had but also about how much he loved us and how hard he tried to get those recorded.)
